My name is Deepa Angal-Kalinin, an accelerator physicist working in the field of particle accelerators more than 35 years.
I am head of the science division in Accelerator Science and Technology (ASTeC) department of UKRI’s (UK Research and Innovations) STFC (Science and Technology Facilities Council) at Daresbury Laboratory.
ASTeC carries out accelerator research and development across a very large number of projects and programmes. Our overarching mission is to deliver benefits to society through our research. These benefits are achieved both directly and indirectly, through research delivered nationally and internationally at the facilities we underpin. We maximise the societal impact of our research by applying our expertise to direct applications in healthcare, security, and industry.
We design, built and operate R&D accelerator test facilities at Daresbury laboratory and make scientific and technical contributions to number of national and international projects.
I started working at Daresbury from September 2002. I moved from India and later living in France to Daresbury Laboratory due to job opportunities in the field of my expertise. I always preferred small towns and countryside environment and having this environment at Daresbury was attractive for me.
Having good transport connections internationally and within the UK to Liverpool, Manchester and Chester is beneficial. The academic partnership of ASTeC with Liverpool, Manchester , Lancaster and Strathclyde Universities is mutually beneficial.
The developments at Daresbury campus over the last decade or so have been impressive but having better public transport options to the campus will be beneficial. Facilities such as temporary accommodation, transport and possibilities for meals and leisure options for visitors to the campus would make this place more attractive.
