I am Professor and Consultant in Haematology working across the University of Liverpool and the Liverpool University NHS Foundation Trusts. My longstanding interest has been on blood changes in patients with infections who become progressively ill and require intensive care support.
New observations that my team have made has led to discoveries and opportunities to improve testing and making early diagnosis. This work has led to the formation of Frequasense Limited – a new biotechnology company that has recently won Innovate UK grant funding for game-changing development with significant potential for impact on the UK economy.
I have lived in the Liverpool City Region since 1995. I was not only lucky to be in the right place at the right time then, but in the years that followed, I have been really happy living in Liverpool, especially as it became the European Capital of Culture. Liverpool is a global city with innovation embedded in its DNA and I am very proud of starting up this business enterprise in addition to having built an internationally recognised clinical centre of excellence for patients and the population here.
