I am a Professor of Building Surveying at Liverpool John Moores University and a Director of the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment. In this role I lead around 100 academic staff, and I’m responsible for several LCR business support and innovation projects.
I am also Visiting Professor in Building Surveying at University of Malaya and Amity University in Delhi. I also work as a consultant to several national organisations in the UK and internationally; including Malaysia and Ghana. I am a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Fellow of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Chartered Environmentalist.
I was born on the Wirral and went to Calday Grange Grammar School in West Kirby before
studying to obtain my first degree from Salford University (Building Surveying). This was followed by a Master of Science from Heriot-Watt University (Building Services Engineering) and a PhD from Liverpool John Moores University (Building Performance).
With the exception of short periods in Manchester, Leeds and Blackpool I have spent almost all of my professional career in Liverpool. Initially working in professional practice, I moved to the then Polytechnic, now LJMU, in 1990. I represent the university on a range of city region bodies including the Innovation Board, Built Environment Board, Making it Board and I am the joint HE representative on the Freeport Board.
The city region has been a place of inspiration and opportunity for me. In my roles as academic leader, educator, and practitioner I have felt privileged to be a participant in the exciting work of the city region and to be able to make a positive impact.
